About Us
About Us!
Sam & Ickah are a dynamic duo from metro Detroit. We're queer little goblins who really, really enjoy both monsters, villains, and being unapologetically cringe.
The variety of styles you see in our shop is because we are both artists in our own rights - and because we don't restrict our own inclinations to experiment with our art.
Both of us are self-taught illustrators who started out doing this on top of working minimum-wage jobs years ago. We attended conventions of multiple genres for years before we started vending at shows (emphasis on the years, because we definitely couldn't afford to attend many annually.)
Brand Values!
We try our best to execute our values through our business whenever possible, including doing things like:
>Volunteering at cons / donating art: We understand that most shows started as fan-organized projects; they're labors of love that are majority volunteer-run or lead. Regardless of whether they receive compensation, volunteers are the backbone of our shows. We try to help in turn whenever we can. If you are a small or college event seeking artwork for your show, feel free to use our contact form - if we aren't available, we'll try to put you in touch with other artists.
>Reusing packaging | minimizing waste: Despite knowing that we produce less waste annually than a box retail grocer does in a day, we still try to do our part when we can. A lot of our filler paper is either scrapped projects or upcycled packaging from a local soap store's shipment containers. Our labels are printed in-house with no laminate finish in order to minimize plastic in packaging.
>Keeping art affordable: We have free zines that are available by download, as well as certain functional things (such as the "off duty" lanyards) that are kept at a "loss" price no matter what. Products that we make at high price points are all available in a "smaller" form elsewhere, so you can still hold the cool art. We also have our email list - we will warn y'all in advance of any price adjustments that may occur.
>Promoting other artists: You may end up with some extra business cards in your order, it's because we know other artists whose porfolios you may want to see! And if it's not for you? Well, that's okay, too <3
>Advocacy & Awareness: If you follow us on instagram, twitter, or tiktok, you've probably seen our resposts & reshares. When we have time and ability, we also try to open commissions for causes, such as the trading card commissions we made in exchange for bail fund donations in 2020.
